Somlaw Machu Kreoung A Signature Cambodian Soup

One of the most distinctive dishes on the menu is Somlaw Machu Kreoung, a traditional Cambodian sour soup that captures the essence of Khmer cooking.

This dish is prepared with fragrant herbs, vegetables, and a choice of protein, creating a broth that is both tangy and savory. The combination of fresh ingredients and aromatic spices gives the soup a vibrant flavor that stands out among Southeast Asian dishes.

For guests who are new to Cambodian cuisine, Somlaw Machu Kreoung serves as an excellent introduction. Its refreshing balance of flavors showcases the unique characteristics of Cambodian cooking while remaining approachable.

Thai Boat Noodles Packed with Rich Flavor

Another favorite among diners is the Thai boat noodles. This dish features tender meat, fresh herbs, and noodles served in a deeply flavored broth.

The broth itself is rich and aromatic, offering layers of seasoning that develop with each bite. The combination of textures from the noodles, herbs, and meat creates a satisfying meal that many guests find comforting and filling.

Savory Cambodian Beef Dishes That Stand Out

Beef dishes are another highlight at Sophy's, particularly the beef jerky and Beef Lok Lak.

The beef jerky offers a smoky and slightly sweet flavor with a satisfying texture. It is often enjoyed as an appetizer and pairs well with refreshing drinks.

Beef Lok Lak is one of Cambodia’s most iconic dishes, and Sophy's version remains a favorite among diners. For guests who enjoy rich and comforting meals, the Panang curry is a popular choice. This Thai inspired dish features a creamy coconut milk base infused with spices that provide warmth without overwhelming heat.

The result is a curry that feels both comforting and flavorful, perfect for diners seeking something hearty and satisfying.

On the lighter side of the menu, the Chicken Larb provides a refreshing alternative. This Thai salad combines minced chicken, lime juice, herbs, and spices to create a bright and zesty dish.

Papaya salad is another refreshing option that reflects the balance of flavors typical in Southeast Asian cuisine. The shredded green papaya is combined with chili, lime, and fish sauce, creating a dish that is both crisp and flavorful.

These lighter dishes help balance the richer items on the menu.

If you’re looking for Cambodian food, this is the spot. If you’re missing home and craving something authentic and comforting, Sophy is a must-try. I ordered the beef skewers, sour soup, and banh xeo, and everything was so good and full of flavor. The food felt warm and homey in the best way. Definitely a place worth checking out.

Interesting dishes. Take the fried tofu, it's usually the firm or medium tofu that most restaurants fry but this one was soft. So it melts in your mouth when you bite into it. Take the Angel wing, it's not just fried chicken wings. It's chicken stuffed. My favorite is their home made beef jerky. I get it every time I'm here. Overall, interesting creative dishes, freshly made except maybe some of the soup, generous portions, and reasonably priced. I'll never understand why they give you like a whole pot of rice but I guess some people love that much rice. I don't know if this is the best Cambodian restaurant but the food tastes great.

Prahok is more of a sauce less of a crudite dip. Or maybe I got the wrong dish. Beef skewers and papaya salad was delicious. Nom krok is addictive. I was expecting more flavor and greens in the nom banh jok. It’s generous with noodles. Curry broth is delicious. Nothing is over salted. There are also scarves and table settings for sale.

One of Long Beach’s authentic Cambodian restaurants. The food is very good, the prahok sauce my second favorite here out of all the other Cambodian restaurants. I just wish the steak was grilled better. They have a unique twist on their fish amok, I definitely recommend it. I also enjoyed the angel wings which were a little dry but the flavor was all there.
